Blonde Mix No.1 - Curated By: Drew Pompa

From: The Blonde Collective

With the encroaching fall season upon us, we thought it was time that we updated the Soundtrack section of our website. A nice mix, we thought, would be something that the people would like. Something that they can stream at home when working or burn to CD and keep in their car for those long drives to see friends or wind down from evening events. We also wanted to make sure to keep the “local flavor” side of Blonde as part of it. So, we decided to call resident Blank Artists and Detroit DJ Drew Pompa up and charged him with the task of curating a mix for us. What he brought back, was fantastic.

An all-over, eclectic mix of down-tempo, hip-hop and Latin sounds, Drew’s mix for Blonde No. 1 hits it right on the mark. Stream/Download the mix below.

Aphotic Segment 005 | September 29th 2010

Aphotic Segment 005 was, yet again, another stellar gathering of fine stylings and peeps from the various neighboring sectors of our fine city of Detroit. Our guest for this month's edition was friend and past Red Bull Music Academy selectee, Jeff Risk.

Risk has been keeping busy with a steady flow of production work, dj gigs, and being an all around unsung pillar of the community. His current interests in the vast realm of music have include styles that range from dub and punk to booty and jungle....so if this is your forte, be sure to download part 2 from this month's series. Additionally, if his set melts your spinal cord, then catch Risk again this Saturday at Oslo in Detroit with local radio disc jockey, DJ Zap. Party details can be accessed HERE.

We hope to see you again at the end of this month for a very special birthday edition of Aphotic Segment on October 27th, as erika.net operator and Ectomorph member, Erika Sherman celebrates her natal day in true fashion, alongside of good friend and Dorkwave member, Jennifer Rohde. Aphotic Segment 005 w/ Jeff Risk - Sept. 29th

Sometime ago, a Chthonic scroll was uncovered by a group of miscreants...... supposedly from the clammy environs of a nearby swamp, only to be brutally abused, set ablaze, and launched into the local atmosphere where the sacred ashes radiated like wildfire.

This cataclysmic effect resulted in a group of cavernous, subterranean misfits transfused by the cosmic cinders strewn about the city. Having been ostracized and banished in...to the darkness of night and colossal depths of the oceans, these misfits emerged from their abysmal confinements nearly five months ago to unleash a lethal brand of ritual among the sheepish hordes and unrelenting drudgery of their slavemasters. This ritual falls every last Wednesday of the month. This ritual is called Aphotic Segment.

Pleased to announce its fifth and most exciting edition yet, Aphotic Segment welcomes local shaman and musical curator, Jeff risk, as he spins a web of nebulous and riotous beats that will be sure to permeate the purlieus of your impenetrable minds. As always, featuring resident selector, Drew Pompa.

Aphotic Segment 003 | July 28th 2010

Aphotic Segment 003 was the liveliest of the monthly's yet.... and to much surprise, as summer night attendance saunters towards the docile nature on a typical Wednesday late eve. The collection of characters was also a nice addition, for the evening offered a mosaic of misfits, hobos, Londoners, Baltimoreans, and local tipplers.... just the way I like it.

Aphotic Segment 003 also showcased its first guest for the monthly series, featuring the fine stylings of George Rahme. George has been collecting records since time immemorial and that is only one of his many hobbies. When George isn't clobbering your mind with sci-fi soundtracks or spin-drifting to surf rock, he's making some serious art. currently, George has a collection of pieces on display at Gallery 2739 in Hamtramck on Edwin street. The exhibit runs until August 14, so check it! More info for George Rahme can be located HERE.

Join us again on August 25th for Aphotic Segment 004. In the mean time, enjoy the excellent musical concoctions below.

Aphotic Segment 002 | June 30th 2010

Aphotic Segment 002 by Aphotic Segment

Aphotic Segment 002, entitled "Equatorial Melodies and Musical Fodder", offered a varietal yet quaint selection of records from tropically inclusive geographies (afro-beat, tropicalia, latin electronic,etc..) but deviated often into an array of forms that included german electronic, punk, psychedelic slow breaks, and a little bit of soul/r&b.

It has also dawned on me, that as I continue with this series, I will probably provide both a dominant theme every month (although not exclusively) and will also start rotating special guests to keep the Aphotic Segment fresh and with an open perspective.
