Aphotic Segment - Thanksgiving Eve 2011

Aphotic Segment welcomes its second annual Thanksgiving eve celebration at the Woodbridge Pub. The first annual event was a rousing success, but in the spirit of Aphotic’s tradition of spontaneity, we’re changing gears this holiday. No talks of revolution or egregious pagan rhetoric. No protestations…. Simply, no strings attached.

Instead, we’d love you to join us, just as you normally would on the night before Thanksgiving. Casual to heavy drinking, reflections on the nightmares of holiday travel, your wretched in-laws, and the insidious pressures of modern life. Soothe your holiday spirit with the abundant flow of spirits and the general merriment of friends, before you retire to a day of family feasting.

A delicious palette of music will be plated and properly served by Will Sessions’ member, Tim Shellabarger and your favorite Slow’s BBQ server, Kevin Henry. Starters and night caps provided by Drew Pompa plus a new special guest added. Always FREE!

Aphotic Segment - Back From the Wilderness w/ Soren

Soren….. oh sweet Soren: a thrill-seeking, madcap of notorious claim. Of course! He must be…. He’s a Detroiter. If you aren’t, then you’re probably not from this town. Nonetheless, this swashbuckling, fortune-hunting harlequin, more than anything, is a toilsome adventurer. He’s grown up in the woods of Michigan, moved to the mean streets of the inner city, and now finds himself nestling in the mountains of Montana, amongst the nature critters and toothless hill men.

But now Soren’s leave of absence has been met with expiration, yet matched with new experience and new revelation. After all, chilling out at base camp and drinkin’ hot chocolate leaves ample time for the re-discovery of the soul…. And whether this sabbatical has been met with great change, we’re just happy to have Soren back in our company where we like him the most: wandering the streets of the Cass Corridor at 10 a.m. sharp after a weekend cocktail of “what the fuck just happened!?” Please, why don’t you join us for a special autumnal Aphotic Segment, as we welcome Soren back to the urban jungle? It shall be a momentous occasion!

Aphotic Segment - The Temptation Edition w/ Josh Dahlberg

What is your idea of a temptation? …A blandishment or a provocation? Perhaps it is a captivating magnetism or a seductive decoy culminating into deception and plagued by a never-ending maze of difficulties? You can certainly predict either as the end result of cavorting with Dahlberg and Pompa. Surely you’ve witnessed one of their mindboggling evenings of delusional chicanery…. And if you haven’t, well let’s just say that it can be extremely tempting when presented with the opportunity to chum around with these lads.

On September 28th, Aphotic Segment brings together these two rascals for the first time in more than a year…. Yes, a sight that is truly beholden. You will probably drink a little whiskey. Nay, you will eventually sweat pure grain alcohol by the end of the night, then wake up in the morning broke and with your pants missing. Thankfully, the latter has yet to occur. But since we can’t predict the future, we must wait and see what the night shall foretell from beginning to mysterious end. This will prove to be a night of real “Temptation.”

Aphotic Segment 016 | August 31st 2011

The end of summer was a chance to meet new friends and say goodbye to old ones. Relaxing night, but perfect weather for the deck, where most of our listeners found themselves.

Bill Corrigan brought a nice and eclectic blend of hip-hop, reggae, boogie and of course, metal music. He had the kind of immense knowledge of metal akin the the dudes who play all the super rare on cjam, sunday mornings. And paired beautifully with Bill for the eveing was Daniel D, who brought his 570AM psych jams, via Brian Jonestown Massacre and Spaceman 3. A nice basket of aural goodies for a relaxing end of summer evening at the pub. Checkski!

Aphotic Segment - End of Summer, What An Endless Bummer

Hello everyone… I hope that you have enjoyed another sweltering summer. And what a summer it’s been. Perhaps a bit of a tear jerker for some and unjust for others. The government plummeted us further into debt, half of London burned and neighbors been gettin’ straight pistol-whipped in the hood.

As Aphotic Segment moves into its last monthly for the summer season, we’re here to soothe your anguish… to help you drink away the pains. Why don’t you join us, while we pour a little for our homies and a lot for ourselves. It’s the end of summer so let us put a close to yet another endless bummer.

This month’s guests are none other than a couple of neighborhood playlisters full of the aural delights. Just swing into Mudgies one afternoon and you can hear the magic in the air. Locals Bill Corrigan and Dan Dlugosielski will be selecting their favorite summer tunes to help alleviate your troubles.

Aphotic Segment 015 | July 27th 2011

Time has seemingly evaded my mind, and upon posting the newest Aphotic Segment event, I realized that I have yet to upload last month's recorded sets.

Hell of a night, as we celebrated Ernie Guerra's 29th birthday party. Lots boozin' and dancing in the rain, as the heavens opened and the seas swallowed us alive. Per usual, fantastic music, but very disappointed that I was unable to capture birthday boy's recording. However, Mr. Joe Vargas made up for in his recording was I was unable to accomplish with Ernie's. So why don't you pull up a lawn-chair, pour a little mad dog and relax your ears to some fine audio tonality. Check it!

Aphotic Segment - The Spiritual Healing Edition w/ Erno the Inferno & Joe Vargas - July 27th 2011

This Aphotic Segment is proud to proclaim that the month of July is now a new patron saint month to be lent to the usual spiritual observances …. and although our views are often secular by nature, it’s occasionally entertaining to reference religious figures for the purpose of steeping our minds in the myriad amount of ideas we hold dear to our vision. Don’t you worry though, we’re not going to solicit you to relocate to a remote jungle encampment and drink Kool-Aid…….that intercom was CREEPY!

Ernie Guerra, known ‘round these parts as “Erno the Inferno,” is our special guest patron-saint-of-the-month. What’s even better is that he’s celebrating his birthday on the eve of our grand musical exposition. Over countless years, while deep in the bowels of this great recession, Ernie has made an impact on the local community by healing the poor, sick, blind and leprous (among others) back to health through the magical and holistic practices of music. No one knows for sure, but tales told amongst village residents suggest that a bearded man approached Erno in his dream one night and granted him such powers. I mean, how else could one explain the sudden and mysterious knowledge bestowed to a local street urchin who spends most days wandering barefooted amongst the village byways? No one knows for sure and Erno ain’t talkin’, either!

Please, won’t you join us and help pay respect to such a glorified soul? Candle light vigil begins at 10 p.m. and carries on into the early morning.
