Aphotic Segment 008 - NYE Revelations w/ Trent Abbe
Greetings fine music aficionados, New Year’s revelers, and nocturnal miscreants…. It’s that time anon, which necessitates our urge to reflect upon the old and embrace the new. Where time ends and begins and then is finished without amends. Please, won’t you join us as we transition such a progression of past to future, of one vision to another, the growing up of young people, and of the onset of new historical ages, as prepare a cordial welcoming for one of Michigan’s most illustrious patrons of the concrete and abstract beginnings of the world, Trent Abbe. Be prepared as Trent presents us with the best musical scriptures of the past and future, in such a way that would satisfy even the most esteemed Roman deities. As always, featuring opening stylings by Drew Pompa.
(NOTE: Aphotic Segment will be taking place on Friday instead of Wednesday this month)

Aphotic Segment 007 - Rejoice Pilgrim Defeat w/ Pipé Scuttleworth
Hark fine people of the Earth. For those proclaiming liberty, viewing freedom as a birthright, come join us in shaking the heavens in pagan fashion….. for we shall seize this night. Warp the very essence of this tradition and bastardize it for your own end and celebrate with us til’ the eyes go a’ crossed and thine legs shan’t support you any further.
Raise those tired souls and ascend, in jubilation, the peaks of joy purveyed by the inexplicable boarder ruffian, Pipé Scuttleworth. Hear, hear, and give three cheers! Raise those hands, and clank with merriment those flagons of hooch. Prepare thineselves with citrus and a healthy, preventative dose of tetanus and penicillin for a sockdolager as heavy as a quaff of Zug Island waters. Oh, and never forget, despite the inevitable intoxication about to be perpetrated upon you, Ol’ Scuttleworth does not intend to jam you up, he’s just going to get you jammy.
Indeed….. we’re about to embark upon a night to remember, full of friends, and fiends, and nicotine dreams, and wines, and wishes, and dishes, and beautiful souls, and sky rackets the likes of which even God has never seen!

Aphotic Segment 006 | October 27th 2010
Wow..... I would love to extend a huge thanks to all the actors involved in last month's belligerent libation ladling. Although it would have been hard to predict a comparable attendance, had it not been for a 2-hour LCD Soundsystem tongue lashing just hours before, but HOT DAMN...... the pub was seriously packed to the gills.
Additionally, Aphotic 006 had witnessed some of the most delicious sets since the inception of Aphotic Segment back in May. Jennifer Rohde curated not only a calm and breezy mood, but also supreme sonic palette that included indie, shoegaze, and experimental jams. The perfect balance translated into an enticing warm up for the birthday girl, Erika Sherman. Erika brought the soupy ambient stylings at the beginning but let loose like a elastic ionic bond after her excellently placed "Mission Impossible" theme song, after which the disposition became dancey time - and quite appropriate for the mood this dance party was.
This month's Aphotic Segment will feature an exciting Detroit debut of Pipé Scuttleworth. Better known by his inner circle as P.M.Pompa or brother P. This event will fall the evening before Thanksgiving, so prepare your liver for some full on fucko festivities. This one's gonna be a rowdy rip-a-roo!

Blonde Mix No.1 - Curated By: Drew Pompa
From: The Blonde Collective
With the encroaching fall season upon us, we thought it was time that we updated the Soundtrack section of our website. A nice mix, we thought, would be something that the people would like. Something that they can stream at home when working or burn to CD and keep in their car for those long drives to see friends or wind down from evening events. We also wanted to make sure to keep the “local flavor” side of Blonde as part of it. So, we decided to call resident Blank Artists and Detroit DJ Drew Pompa up and charged him with the task of curating a mix for us. What he brought back, was fantastic.
An all-over, eclectic mix of down-tempo, hip-hop and Latin sounds, Drew’s mix for Blonde No. 1 hits it right on the mark. Stream/Download the mix below.

Aphotic Segment 005 was, yet again, another stellar gathering of fine stylings and peeps from the various neighboring sectors of our fine city of Detroit. Our guest for this month's edition was friend and past Red Bull Music Academy selectee, Jeff Risk.

Aphotic Segment 005 w/ Jeff Risk - Sept. 29th
Sometime ago, a Chthonic scroll was uncovered by a group of miscreants...... supposedly from the clammy environs of a nearby swamp, only to be brutally abused, set ablaze, and launched into the local atmosphere where the sacred ashes radiated like wildfire.
This cataclysmic effect resulted in a group of cavernous, subterranean misfits transfused by the cosmic cinders strewn about the city. Having been ostracized and banished in...to the darkness of night and colossal depths of the oceans, these misfits emerged from their abysmal confinements nearly five months ago to unleash a lethal brand of ritual among the sheepish hordes and unrelenting drudgery of their slavemasters. This ritual falls every last Wednesday of the month. This ritual is called Aphotic Segment.
Pleased to announce its fifth and most exciting edition yet, Aphotic Segment welcomes local shaman and musical curator, Jeff risk, as he spins a web of nebulous and riotous beats that will be sure to permeate the purlieus of your impenetrable minds. As always, featuring resident selector, Drew Pompa.

Aphotic Segment 003 | July 28th 2010
Aphotic Segment 003 was the liveliest of the monthly's yet.... and to much surprise, as summer night attendance saunters towards the docile nature on a typical Wednesday late eve. The collection of characters was also a nice addition, for the evening offered a mosaic of misfits, hobos, Londoners, Baltimoreans, and local tipplers.... just the way I like it.
Aphotic Segment 003 also showcased its first guest for the monthly series, featuring the fine stylings of George Rahme. George has been collecting records since time immemorial and that is only one of his many hobbies. When George isn't clobbering your mind with sci-fi soundtracks or spin-drifting to surf rock, he's making some serious art. currently, George has a collection of pieces on display at Gallery 2739 in Hamtramck on Edwin street. The exhibit runs until August 14, so check it! More info for George Rahme can be located HERE.
Join us again on August 25th for Aphotic Segment 004. In the mean time, enjoy the excellent musical concoctions below.

Aphotic Segment 002 | June 30th 2010
Aphotic Segment 002 by Aphotic Segment
Aphotic Segment 002, entitled "Equatorial Melodies and Musical Fodder", offered a varietal yet quaint selection of records from tropically inclusive geographies (afro-beat, tropicalia, latin electronic,etc..) but deviated often into an array of forms that included german electronic, punk, psychedelic slow breaks, and a little bit of soul/r&b.
It has also dawned on me, that as I continue with this series, I will probably provide both a dominant theme every month (although not exclusively) and will also start rotating special guests to keep the Aphotic Segment fresh and with an open perspective. Join us again this month on Wednesday, July 30th 2010. Special guest TBA. Tracklisting for Segment 002 is included below. check it!

Aphotic Segment 001 | May 26th 2010
The first installment of the Aphotic Segment at the Woodbridge Pub had proven to be an entertaining evening, to say the least. Good music, great friends, cheap booze, and little distance of travel madee for a cumulative success. It certainly felt like the varied and psychedelic nature of the segment contributed to a heightened level of intoxication, without inducing a full-on libation coma. It also provided a great opportunity for me to unveil a rough edit of mine and my brother's new track "C.A.P. & Pipé Scuttleworth - Sunrise".
If you didn't attend this month's segment, then join us for the second installment on June 30th, 2010. Also, As you anxiously await the second installment, feast your ears on the recording of "Aphotic Segment 001". tracklisting is included below.

Introduction to Aphotic Segment
Words By: C.A.P. & Pipé Scuttleworth.
"Aphotic Segment” is a monthly endeavor aimed at the exploration of the seemingly divergent worlds of both electronic and traditional music. The goal is to distend the audience with a cacophony, in an environment suitable for a listener's total immersion.
Too often sound is presented myopically, in a context that focuses on a particular scene or style. The current structure often serves to narrow the participant’s exposure, frequently at the expense of the broader spectrum of what already exists or what may be.
With our monthly, we will attempt to parse the infinite, to help induce a musical imagination ripe with lizard androids, gothic relics, and outer space travel. Here, here fine friends! Our time is too limited to suppress the curious nature of humanity and its lovely soundtrack. We cannot grow unless we continue to search the abyss.
In addition, this blog is committed to connecting the listener with each month's recorded segment. Stay tuned for estranged audio vibrations and more.
